Director: Bruce Olstad
Music Director Bruce Olstad is a frequent collaborator with opera companies throughout the Bay Area. He currently holds the position of assistant conductor for the 2011/2012 season with both Berkeley West Edge Opera and Livermore Valley Opera and serves as chorusmaster for Sacramento Opera and West Bay Opera (Palo Alto). Also, Mr. Olstad serves as music director for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Palo Alto and maintains a private vocal coaching studio.
Mr. Olstad served for many years as vocal coach and pianist for the opera workshop at San Jose State University. He held the position of Chorusmaster at Opera San Jose for five seasons, where he also served as vocal coach and rehearsal pianist. Mr. Olstad has played for the master classes of baritone Thomas Hampson and dramatic soprano Luana DeVol. Mr. Olstad holds a Master’s Degree in Keyboard Collaborative Arts from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from University of California, Los Angeles. The Oriana Chorale is pleased to be able to offer this kind of vocal teaching talent to the residents of San Benito County and greatly appreciate what Bruce has been able to help Oriana Chorale accomplish in his four years as their director.
Pianist and Soprano : Rachel Romina
Rachel Romina received her Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in vocal performance from San Jose State University. While a student, she served as a piano accompanist for the voice studios of world renowned opera singers Erie Mills and Joseph Frank. She also served as a church accompanist for St. Frances Cabrini and St. Martin of Tours Parishes in San Jose.
Currently, Ms. Romina is the accompanist at First Presbyterian Church in Hollister; in addition, she teaches piano and voice lessons in San Jose and Hollister and hopes to expand her studio in the San Benito County area. Over the last three years, Rachel has won the hearts of our audiences as they watch her play the piano, and listen to her beautiful soprano solos.
